By T. Christian Rollins, MBA, CFRE, Chief Development Officer at Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice in Marlton, NJ, and author of TRUISMS of Fundraising.

Several years ago, a former band mate suggested that we pass the hat at one of our annual reunion performances, and donate the proceeds to VH-1’s Save The Music Foundation.  After applauding his great idea, I suggested a slightly different approach.  Today, my talented friend Andy Carignan continues to generate support and awareness for the Join The Band Fund, which puts instruments into the hands of Frederick County, Maryland public school students who could otherwise not afford them.

According to event organizer Kimbia, a provider of online-giving technology, more than 300,000 Americans made donations during May’s “Give Local America” fundraising drive, generating over $50 million for 7,000 not-for-profit organizations in 120 participating communities.

Thriving community foundations are elevating philanthropy all across our nation, supporting local charities, involved in front-line efforts to provide health, food, shelter, literacy, and other needed programs and services.

Big ideas.  Local impact.

Where do you want to make a difference? Where can your effort have the most impact? How will your gifts of time and support touch your community?

You really can change the lives of your neighbors.  Advocate.  Volunteer.  Lead.  Give.

Locally.
